Summer Camp Registration Opens end of February!


We are excited to once again partner with West Des Moines Parks & Recreation and Clive Parks & Recreation for our summer camp offerings. 


*Please Note: You do not have to be a WDM or Clive resident to register for camps. 


If a specific week does not work for your schedule, please check the other options/location on a different week. 



Summer Camps in West Des Moines

KPop steam studio

June 15 - 18 from 9:00 - 11:30am

Ages: 6 to 12

VJAC - West Des Moines 


Campers will dive into the exciting world of music and dance, learning KPop choreography, designing their own mini stages, and performing their favorite KPop-inspired hits. Along the way, they’ll explore the science of sound, create their own musical instruments and microphones, and learn about circuitry with light-up accessories. The week culminates in a fun, high-energy performance where students showcase everything they've le

break it & Built It

 June 22 - 25 from 9:00 - 11:30am

Ages: 8 to 12

VJAC - West Des Moines


In Break It and Build It Camp, junior engineers will safely take apart gadgets like computers, phones, and toys to uncover how they’re designed and their inner workings. Campers will explore foundational engineering concepts, hands-on problem-solving, and the art of upcycling. Throughout the week, students will investigate, deconstruct, and repurpose materials ending with the creation of their own unique, one-of-a-kind artwork. 

Robot Explorers: Code & Create

June 29 - July 2 from 9:00 - 11:30am

Ages: 6 to 12

VJAC - West Des Moines


Coders will jump into the exciting world of robotics and coding through hands-on, interactive activities. They’ll program robots to tackle obstacle courses, team relay races, games, and robot battles, all while building problem-solving and teamwork skills. Campers will also design and create wiggle bots, combining coding with creativity. Kids will explore the science behind robotics while having a blast.

Paws & Pets STEAM

July 6 - 9 from 9:00 - 11:30am

Ages: 5 to 10

VJAC - West Des Moines 


Get ready for a purr-fectly fun week! Animal lovers will dive into the science behind their favorite furry friends through hands-on exploration and playful learning. A visiting veterinarian will teach campers how to care for animals, learn what a veterinarian does, and how to stay safe around unfamiliar pets. Campers will discover how pets communicate, and “adopt” a stuffed animal to love throughout the week. 

Superhero steam

July 13 - 16 from 9:00 - 11:30am

Ages: 5 to 10

VJAC - West Des Moines


In this action-packed camp, your superhero will explore science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through hands-on experiments and creative projects themed around superheroes. Campers will use 3D printer pens to create custom badges, tackle superhero challenges testing their “super strength”, navigate robots, become environmental heroes, create secret code, and engage in art and math adventures.

July 20 - 23 from 9:00 - 11:30am

Ages: 6 to 12

City Hall - West Des Moines 


Blast off on an out-of-this-world STEAM adventure where young explorers become planetary scientists and engineers! Campers will team up with a NASA Ambassador to build their own rovers and explore the challenges of space exploration. They’ll design and construct Mars habitats, launch rockets, sample space food, and more! Kids will even get the chance to program their robots to navigate the surface of Mars.

July 27 - 30 from 9:00 - 11:30am

Ages: 4 to 8

VJAC - West Des Moines 


Future innovators will code, build, and explore with Ozobots, BeeBots, Code & Go Bots, and more! Campers will learn the basics of coding, how robots work, and ways they can assist in everyday life. Through playful exploration, kids will program robots to navigate mazes, play interactive games, solve problems, and complete tasks while developing sequencing and problem-solving skills. They’ll even make their own Hex-Bugs.

Get ready for a camp packed with science fun! Campers will become junior scientists as they dive into hands-on experiments like elephant toothpaste, slime chemistry, glowstick experiments, and other exciting reactions that fizz, foam, and pop! Kids will learn about chemical reactions, states of matter, and the scientific method, all while discovering how science can be messy, magical, and totally epic!

Junior Chemists: Beakers & Bubbles

Come explore the exciting world of chemistry through hands-on and unique experiments! From creating fizzy colorful reactions, bouncing bubbles and potions, designing bubble wands, creating giant bubbles, and magic balloon experiment, students will discover the wonders of science in a fun and interactive way! 

Robot Explorers: Code & Create

July 6 - 9 from 1:30 - 4:00pm

Ages: 6 to 12

Clive City Hall - Clive

  • Doors open to camp classroom 5 minutes prior to the camp starting. 
  • Please sign in your student on the sign in/out sheet. 
  • Please pick up your child promptly after the camps is over.
  • Please sign out your student on the sign in/out sheet when you leave. 
  • Take projects and water bottles home after camp each day. 


Please send your camper in appropriate clothing so they are comfortable and prepared to participate in activities. 

We recommend:

  • Clothing that allows for play, exploration, and hands-on activities. 
  • Closed toed shoes or sandals with straps


Please send your camper with the following: 

  • Sunscreen already applied prior to coming to camp
  • Water bottle
  • Peanut free snack


During camp students are given guidelines at the start of each day to help keep everyone safe, learning, and having fun.

We follow the STEAM STARZ guidelines:

  • Try New Skills
  • Use Materials Appropriately
  • Use Listening Ears 


STEAM STARZ reserves the right to dismiss any student from our camps due to excessive disruptive behavior, safety concerns, or violent actions. 


If the weather allows, campers will spend time outside each day to play or do STEAM activities. In the event of unsafe weather, campers will not go outside.  


If you are bringing any medication to camp with your child (including rescue inhalers and EpiPens), you must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Morning/evening dose of medications should be given before or after your child attends camp. Only medications with a dosage schedule that cannot be adjusted for camp hours should be administered during the day.
  • ALL medications must be given to a Camp Instructor by an adult. Prescription medications must be in the child’s name and in its original bottle. Adult should advise whether the medication should be returned at the end of each day or stay at the Zoo for the duration of camp.
  • A medication authorization form must be filled out completely for each medication to be administrated at camp.
  • We will NOT administer medication without a completed form until we are able to reach a parent by phone.
  • All medications must be in their original packaging and labeled with appropriate prescription, dosing and/or pharmaceutical information. Liquid medication must be accompanied with an appropriate measuring cup/syringe.
  • We must have the child’s first and last name and exact time medication is to be given.
  • We are unable to accept damaged/expired medications or loose medicine in unmarked packaging or give medication on an “as needed” basis.
